Valverde issues advice to Jordi Alba following La Roja snub
Ernesto Valverde has urged Jordi Alba to concentrate on the next match of Barcelona without losing his head following the leftback’s omission from Luis Enrique’s Spain squad.
Alba has been left out of the La Roja squad who face England and Croatia in the upcoming international break. His exclusion raised concerns about his long-term future in the national setup as the 29-year-old fell out of favour with Luis Enrique in the Spain manager’s last season as Barca boss.
Luis Enrique with a typically feisty first squad for Spain. No Koke, Lucas Vazquez, Iago Aspas or, most tellingly, Jordi Alba. He fell out with Alba during his last season at Barça but does anyone really think he’s an inferior player to Gaya? I mean come on…

Current Blaugrana boss Valverde refrained from making a comment on his predecessor’s decision but instead advised Alba to concentrate his energies on the club’s next game against Huesca.
“Well, the same as anyone: focus on the game without going crazy,” said Valverde when asked what piece of advice he would give the leftback. “It’s not a question for me. It’s the national team coach who calls up those who he thinks are the best. Just as I don’t like it when other coaches question my squads and my line-ups, I won’t talk about others.”
Alba has been a staple in the Spanish national setup, having been the first choice leftback for the country in their last four major tournaments, including their triumphant Euro 2012 campaign.
