Zinedine Zidane benched Gareth Bale during Real Madrid’s 2-0 loss to Real Betis in the final match of the La Liga season.
“It is true, I did not [give Bale a chance to say goodbye]. If I had another substitute to make, I would not have done anything different. But I have to look at the day-to-day, and make decisions. And when there is something I do not like, or does not fit for me, I must do what I think best,” said Zidane.
Bale has been the target of transfer rumors throughout the season.
Real Madrid finished with their lowest point total in La Liga since 2002.
