Gelson Martins said he wants to stay with Monaco instead of returning to Atletico Madrid following his loan.
Martins spoke of his dis-satisfaction with Diego Simeone and Atleti.
“I’m the same player, my characteristics don’t match what they want and [Diego] Simeone isn’t going to change his ideas for me. I think the best thing is to change environment,” said Martins.
Martins added that a talk with Simeone was the deciding factor in him signing with the club last season.
“Obviously I wanted to play, but it’s not easy to get into the team. My style doesn’t fit into Simeone‘s ideas because he has a very defensive team. Simeone sent me a message saying that I would play a lot and would be useful…I’m a fast player and I thought that I would fit in because they defend well and break…I was a little disappointed with Simeone,” added Martins.
